By request, I have started reviewing the gear that I bring with me on my filming excursions. So, first up, this review covers my sticks. My preferred choice of video stabilization, when studio-grade grounding is not convenient, is the Velbon Geo-Series tripod.
It’s light, it packs extremely well and it’s tough enough to accompany me through the rough and tumble places like the sticky jungles of Borneo or the rugged topography of Guatemala. Of course, I recommend a nice, sturdy, three stage tripod with a bowl-head system. But when getting studio quality shots in these places means carrying around a tripod that outweigh the rest of the pack, it’s time to add a lighter stabilization system to your repertoire.
